The myth of decking
Decking requires some maintenance and will need some care
The hardwoods will go grey and that is if they are not treated annually
Composite decking does lose its lustre but is maintenance free
Softwood can be fine if left alone but if it is outside a patio door, you will be tempted to stain it.
Conclusion
Decking can be a great asset to any design and I have had great success with it only because it works for the house, practically, design driven and is the most pleasurable place to sit on in a sunny day.
The elements play hell on timber even dirt and frost could make you give up on timber, but if you can override all of these challenges you will find that a deck has great satisfaction.
I have one at my own house and it has stood the test of the elements once it is cleaned regularly.
